People often tell me, “You are so strong.”
I know they mean it as a compliment, and I appreciate it. But some days, I am not trying to be strong. I am simply doing what needs to be done.
Many women know this feeling.
We take care of our families, go to work, answer the phone, solve problems, and check on everyone else. People become so used to seeing us handle things that they may forget to ask whether we are okay.
Sometimes we forget to ask ourselves.
I can be a strong woman and still feel tired. I can encourage someone else and still need encouragement. I can enjoy caring for the people I love and still need care and support too.
Strength does not mean holding everything inside.
Sometimes strength looks like asking for help. Sometimes it means resting, crying, saying no, or simply admitting, “Today is hard for me.”
We may not feel comfortable sharing our feelings with everyone, and that is okay. But having at least one trusted person around whom we do not have to pretend can make a difference.
If you are usually the person everyone depends on, please remember that you deserve support too.
